Interruption and resumption of the game: sound signals

When the game is interrupted by the Committee due to a dangerous situation, if the players in a match or a group are between two holes, they must not start playing again until the Committee has ordered the resumption of the game.If they are in the middle of playing a hole they must immediately interrupt the game and must not resume playing until the Committee has given permission to do so.If a player does not respect this immediate interruption of the game, he must be disqualified unless circumstances justify the annulment of such a penalty, as is foreseen in the rule 33-7.

Immediate interruption: 1 prolonged sound signal

Suspension of play: 3 consecutive sound signals, repetitively

Resumption of play: 2 short sound signals, repetitively

Equipment measuring distance (Rule 14-3)

Only instruments which measure or estimate distance are authorized (Rule 14-3/0.5 Rule 14-3/1 Rule 14-3/5.5)

Lines and stakes

In situations where lines and stakes are both present, the lines prevail over the stakes

Out of bounds

Defined by walls and fences (including electric fences) bordering the course, and/or by the lines of white stakes and/or white lines marked on the ground.

Water hazards and lateral water hazards

Identified and/or defined by stakes and/or coloured lines on the ground:

  • Yellow for water hazards,
  • Red for lateral water hazards

All ditches not staked or defined are lateral water hazards and their lines of demarcation are the natural breaks in the slope.

Ground under repair (Rule 25-1)

Zones defined by blue stakes and/or white lines, as well as, indicated or not by stakes or lines, the following elements:

  • Drains which have subsided and/or have been gravelled
  • Uneven ground levels due to automatic watering systems
  • Ruts in the ground made by machinery
  • Gullies in the bunkers
  • Bare patches on the greens

Ball embedded in its own pitch mark (Rule 25-2 extended to any area on the course)

On the course, a ball which is embedded in its own pitch mark on ground other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer to the hole.

Obstructions

Moveable obstructions (Rule 24-1)

  • Stones in the bunkers

Immovable obstructions (Rule 24-2)

  • The paths and all the elements of the mechanical lift on hole 18.
  • The section of the path that crosses the fairway of the 9th hole. Elsewhere the roads and paths are integral parts of the course.
  • The posts and signs supporting notices

Penalty for infraction of Local Rules

Match play: loss of hole Stroke play: 2 strokes

Reminder: in stroke paly only, when a player is doubtful of his rights or of the procedure to be followed, he may, without penalty, play two balls to finish the hole; he must afterwards report the facts to the recording. If he fails to do so, he shall be disqualified (Rule 3-3).
